John Galliano suspended

News of the day:John Galliano has been suspended as creative director of the Dior Maison.

News of what happened are confused and not confirmed. British fashion designer John Galliano has been suspended as creative director of Christian Dior after he was detained and accused of an anti-Semitic insult.Dior said it is suspending him pending an investigation into the incident in a Paris restaurant on Thursday night. The Paris prosecutor's office said a couple in the restaurant accused Galliano of anti-Semitic insults.A police official said Galliano and the couple also slapped each other. He said Galliano's blood alcohol levels were high. It's not clear if he's been taken in jail or not.His lawers denied the insults. As you can see the matter is complicated and delicate.

In my opionion we have to observe that economic justice seems to be harder than french one.In France the sentence for someone guilty of racist remarks is 6 months of jail and 22.500 euros in fine.Maison Dior, without waiting the result of the investigation, scared of sales decrease, declared Galliano guilty suspending him from his role during the fashion week. It's not clear if the Dior runway will take place as scheduled. I think they too quickly took the distance from a man who made the maison shine for 14 years.Maybe the Country will consider you innocent until proven guilty but don't expect the same treatment from the Money.

Hello

I'm a fench law student(and a big lover of your blog ;))
So i'm gonna explain you some point about Galliano's situation
In french law, like many other contries, you are innocent until you're found guilty. So Dior's decion is not good.
But because of frenche history, rascism is a verry hard accusation. That why Dior's made this decision.
I totally disagree with theme :
1/ Galliano was drunk, when you are drunk you are not considered as fully responsible of your acts (in french legal system
2/theire is no proof of what he said and if it was really anti-semitic or not (the judge will decide)
3/no judgment = he is still innocent

thanks for your professional explanation :)
This situation is a big mess.
I personally think that he made himself untenable and alcol is the biggest enemy he has to face.
He has some issues to resolve.
The sad thing is that he has been so easily fired as if a drunk night could erase an entire carreer.
